Cinco de Mayo. Did you know it’s actually a bigger deal in the United States than it is in Mexico? It’s true (at least, that’s what history.com says and they’re usually right).
While Cinco de Mayo is a minor holiday in Mexico, people in the US use it as a day to celebrate Mexican culture, enjoy really good food and drink.
And here at The SnapBar, we’re always up for a party...especially when margaritas are involved! So here’s a list of ideas to make your “Cinco de Drinko” party excelente (that’s “excellent” in Spanish...definitely had to look that up…)
1. Make Sure You Have Great Music
The key to any great Cinco de Mayo party is good music. An awesome DJ, live mariachi band, or your own playlist are all great options.
You want your beats to be high-energy and fun. Something people can dance to.
And regardless of who’s operating the music, throwing a few classics in there always makes the crowd happy. Hello Livin’ la Vida Loca and the Macarena!
2. Perfect Decorations
You can’t go wrong with cacti 🌵decor everywhere. Also, one of my favorite things about Mexican culture is their propensity for bright colors.
Reds, greens, blues, and oranges will instantly make wherever you are feel like a party.
Banners, succulents in colorful planters, and streamers are easy ways to bring the fiesta to your Cinco de Mayo celebration.

3. A Cinco de Mayo Photo Experience
Okay guys, you know we here at The SnapBar believe a photo booth makes every party even more fun. And a great photo is always an awesome favor.
But what can you do to make sure your Cinco de Mayo photo booth is unique?
Make sure you have awesome props and a great background. Sombreros, maracas, pinatas, and themed signs are always a hit.
Also, a super colorful background is a must. I mean, check out this photo from a Cinco de Mayo event we did in 2018. The colorful sombrero background is so fun!
4. Festive Drinks are a Must!
Margaritas are a given at any Mexican-themed party. But why stop with just a plain margarita? Why not throw in some strawberries? Or, my personal favorite, blended with mango.
And don’t forget, margaritas are just the tip of the iceberg! For those at your party who don’t enjoy sweeter drinks, Corona with lime is always a good option.
Or, for those who don’t care for alcohol or aren’t legal yet, virgin sangria, horchata, and Mexican hot chocolate are delicious alternatives.
(I’m a big fan of this original margarita recipe from Kitchen Swagger!)
