Photo booths have been in use for over a hundred years in one form or another. Over the decades, people who use them have become quite good at setting themselves up for success! With the advent of the open air photo booth, different poses have become the norm. Here are the 10 Essential Photo Booth Poses that you can (and maybe should) rock at your next event!
1. The Sam Elliot
Serious--but not too serious. You're in charge. Probably with impressive facial hair. Subtly tough. Tough against boredom. You're making sure everyone is having a good time. And you don't even have to smile to do it.
2. The Celebrity
There's only one person in this shot that matters. The others are just there for support. Maybe a diva with her elbows resting on the shoulders of her minions. She looks toward the camera, but not at it. She looks up slightly, on to more important things. Maybe there are more minions pretending to take pictures of her, or fanning her, or even asking for her autograph. This pose is popular at any event where one or two people are the focal point, such as a graduation, wedding, birthday party, or narcissistic attendees.
3. Hollywood Boulevard
This is a group photo most popular at formal events. You're with your friends, but you're all in the spotlight. Sunglasses, ties, slick hair. You're at the top of your game. But you're all together. Smiles are optional, but there's an air of royalty here. Couples or friends can participate. But all rule with dignity.
4. The Rat Pack
Another good-times group pose. You're with your people now. There may be a shade of arrogance, but why wouldn't there be when you've got your people at your side? This works great at a semi-formal or business casual event. Bust out your aviators or wayfarers, roll up your sleeves and pop your collars. You're channeling a bygone era when everyone had a song playing in their head, and you didn't need the approval of 'the man.' Your crew is all you need, and together you can conquer the world.
5. The Nerd
This is part of the "props galore" subset of poses. The Nerd employs the use of a giant pair of lensless glasses and the cheesiest expression your cheeks can muster. Quirky and goofy is the goal here, with just a touch of cute.
6. All Business
Ditch the grin and grab a fake (or real!) mustache and give a lesson in seriousness. You know you've got it... Just try to keep the brimming laughter stifled.
7. Charlie's Angels
This one keeps the seriousness, but implies a more sinister intent. Confident Pose. A look that could kill. Mostly used by a group of girl friends, but can be pulled off by anyone. Many times substituted or accompanied by the James Bond pose.
8. The Jaw Drop (scream or shock?)
Who, me?! Mouth open, hands on both cheeks, potentially. Were you caught doing something? Are you surprised to see the camera? Did something shocking just happen? Or are you a typical girl? No one knows... Maybe even you don't know yourself. Haters gon' hate. You look good regardless.
9. Besties/Cute Couple
This is the primary pose for two. Despite the title, you don't have to be besties to nail this one. It's you and someone else, and you're both happy. Hold hands, throw an arm over a shoulder, point at each other, or go for the full hug. (Or dare I say, go for the kiss!) This pose is for you and someone you care about. You can make it meaningful, silly, or BOTH!
10. Shake Face
This works best with a high quality photo booth. Let's set the scene: The timer is counting down, you haven't picked a pose yet, you're panicking. So what do you do? You shake your face with all your might. The image produced from this action is pure gold, and you will not be able to stop laughing. Even Russell Wilson of the Seattle Seahawks joined in on this fun!
Some honorable mentions would include "The Sorority", "the yearbook", "bottoms up," "cheesy Prom," and "chalkboard message". But really, the best pose is whatever you and your mates can come up with. Creativity always wins the day in a photo booth!
