Today, we're giving our company headshots platform the brand identity it deserves. Studio Headshots is becoming Scale Headshots.
If you're an existing customer, the short version is: nothing about your experience is changing. Same platform, same team, same credits. Just a new name and a dedicated focus that's been a long time coming. If you're new here, keep reading for the full story.
How We Got Here
Snapbar started in 2012 as a photo activation company. For over a decade, we've built web-based experiences that help brands engage audiences at events, capture data, and generate content. More than 10,000 brands have used our platform for everything from AI photo booths to trading cards to video activations.
Somewhere along the way, clients started asking a question we hadn't anticipated: "Can we use this for team headshots?"
It made sense. Our virtual photo booth technology already handled remote photo capture, AI enhancement, and branded delivery. The infrastructure was there. So we built it. What started as a response to client requests became a product that grew steadily on its own, eventually serving more than 300 companies and managing over 50,000 headshots.

But the product always lived under Snapbar's umbrella, and Snapbar is known for experiential marketing activations. Company headshots and event activations are fundamentally different use cases with different buyers, different sales cycles, and different success metrics. The headshots product never got the dedicated focus, brand identity, or marketing attention it deserved.
Why Scale, and Why Now
As remote and hybrid work became the norm, the need for scalable headshot management only grew. Every company with distributed employees faces the same problem: how do you maintain a consistent, professional visual identity across your entire team without coordinating photographers, office visits, or studio sessions?
That's the problem Scale Headshots is built to solve. And solving it well requires a team that wakes up every morning thinking about headshots and nothing else.
This brings us to Helium Development, the engineering team behind Scale Headshots. Snapbar and Helium are neighbors in Gig Harbor, Washington. The founders are brothers-in-law. Over the years, some Snapbar team members joined Helium, carrying deep knowledge of the product and the customers who use it. Helium builds products that serve thousands of Shopify merchants, so they brought strong infrastructure and scalability expertise to the headshots platform.
We had the market insight and customer relationships. They had the engineering depth. And we happened to be next door. That kind of partnership is hard to manufacture, and it's a big part of why we're confident in this next chapter.
What's Not Changing
If you're a current customer, here's what matters most: your experience is staying the same.
- Your account, credits, and team setup are exactly where you left them
- The Portal and login process remain the same
- SSO and authentication are unaffected
- All your existing styles, contacts, and submissions are preserved
- The same team is building and supporting the product
The name on the door is changing. The product behind it is not.
Real Photos of Real People
There's an important distinction worth making, especially now. The world is flooded with AI headshot generators that create images of people from scratch. Some of them are impressive. But they're not real.
Scale Headshots takes a fundamentally different approach. Every headshot starts with a real photo of a real person. AI is used to enhance quality (background removal, lighting correction, style application) and to improve operational efficiency for corporate teams. It is not used to generate some idealized version of what someone should look like.

The goal is to bring the unique personalities of real people and real teams to the forefront. That matters for businesses where trust, authenticity, and genuine human connection drive results. Your clients, partners, and colleagues deserve to see the actual people they're working with.
What's Been Built
This rebrand isn't just a name change. The product has been evolving rapidly. A few highlights from recent months:
Team and user management. Owners can now manage team names, roles, and membership directly in the Portal. Any user can spin up new teams with built-in cost controls.
A growing REST API. Filter submissions by contact, email, or date range. Filter contacts by creation date. Improved rate limiting and cursor handling for integrations. This is the "headshot infrastructure" vision coming to life: connect Scale to your HRIS, CRM, onboarding systems, or badge printers.
New AI enhancement options. Experimental image enhancement models are now available at the studio level, including standard correction, upscale and enhance, and a generative option powered by the latest models.
Redesigned style management. A rebuilt interface for managing headshot styles, with support for multiple style selection during onboarding and studio creation.

What's Ahead
Giving Scale Headshots its own identity means giving it a dedicated product roadmap. We're not going to over-promise here, but the direction is clear: more integrations, more automation, and more ways to deploy professional headshots across your organization.
The rebrand is the starting point, not the finish line.
If you're an existing customer, thank you for being part of this journey. If you're new, we'd love to show you what we've built. Stay tuned for more details on the official launch.
