The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) is the world's largest HR professional society, representing 300,000 members in more than 165 countries. Every year, SHRM hosts one of the most influential gatherings of HR professionals globally, attracting thousands of attendees from various industries. In 2023, SHRM held its annual conference, SHRM23, as a hybrid event, combining in-person (Las Vegas, NV) and virtual elements to reach an even larger audience. The event was a massive undertaking, with over 15,000 HR professionals attending in-person and 3,000 more participating virtually.
In 2023, SHRM partnered with Snapbar for the first time to provide innovative and interactive elements to enhance the attendee experience, value, and increase awareness for the core message of the event - driving change in HR. The goal was to create engaging experiences that would resonate with all attendees and align with the conference's theme, focused on the virtual audience first but available to anyone accessing the online content.
Snapbar provided two distinct solutions for SHRM23: Studio and Snapshot.
Studio was set up to provide free 'virtual' headshots for attendees. This allowed attendees to easily capture unique, new professional headshots that were instantly delivered in multiple unique outputs. This not only provided a valuable takeaway for attendees but also helped to create a consistent visual identity for virtual attendees enhancing communications and networking.
Snapshot, our virtual photo booth experience, enabled attendees to take or upload a picture, replace the background with unique backgrounds related to the specific event and location, and apply stickers showing how they were driving change in HR. The entire experience was customized to directly tie into the conference session tracks, bringing an additional element of impact and engagement. Moreover, Snapshot was directly integrated with SHRM's social wall, powered by Walls.io, resulting in real-time sharing and engagement alongside aggregated social content, amplifying the overall reach of the event beyond the physical location.
SHRM promoted both of these free attendee experiences via daily email updates, as well as daily ‘all-day sessions’ helping boost awareness and adoption, driving much higher overall engagement rates.
The combination of Snapbar Studio and Snapshot provided a unique and engaging experience for SHRM23 attendees. Over 130 people created unique Snapshot content, downloading their content 75% of the time, which is often shared on social, along with 22% of people sharing directly to social utilizing the built-in Snapshot feature.
For Studio, over 125 people utilized the platform capturing new professional headshots, each getting 8 automatically edited headshots, producing over 1,000 unique headshots for attendees of the event. Something normally restricted to in-person photography experiences was proven to be both popular and successful, adding value for their virtual attendees both during and beyond the event.
